John George Psychiatric Hospital, located in San Leandro, California, is part of Alameda Health System (AHS), a major public health care provider recognized as a world-class patient and family centered system of care. The facility opened in 1992 named in the honor of John George, a member of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors who was a steadfast and courageous champion for the mentally ill. Services are designed to assist in stabilizing patients, achieving personal goals, and developing skills and resources in order to help them on their personal journey toward wellness and recovery. When children and adolescents come to the Psychiatric Emergency Services, they are referred to other hospitals specializing in their treatment. Some managed care plans contract with JGPH to provide psychiatric services to their members.
